One of the great things about our self storage insurance is that it's completely flexible. You can choose to take out a policy with a fixed end date and then amend it online by logging into your account if you need to extend your cover. Alternatively you can choose to take out a rolling policy with regular payments every 28 days, which provides cover until you cancel the policy, assuming all premiums have been paid.

In the event of loss or damage which may give rise to a claim, you must take all measures under your control to minimise any loss.
  • Check the terms and conditions of insurance to see if you are covered for the loss or damage. Read carefully any conditions and exclusions that may apply.
  • Click the “My Account” link on the NSIP website and follow the on screen instructions. Full details of any losses and/or damages incurred must be notified to NSIP Services Ltd within 7 days of you first being aware of any loss or damage.
  • To help us deal with your claim, you must:
    1. Not throw away any damaged items before we have had chance to inspect them.
    2. Provide us with the following information if requested:
      • Original purchase receipts, valuations, and photographs of more expensive items.
      • Provide repair estimates for any damaged items.
      • For damaged items, confirmation by a qualified expert that the item you are claiming for is damaged beyond repair.

This will depend on the type of claim and the value involved: Where the damage can be economically repaired we will pay the cost of repair. Where the damage cannot be economically repaired and the damaged or lost item can be replaced, we will replace it. If a replacement is not available we will replace it with an item of similar quality. Where we are unable economically to repair or to replace an item with an item of similar quality, we will agree a cash payment with you based on the replacement value. Where we can offer repair or replacement through a preferred supplier, but instead you request and we agree to pay a cash settlement, then the amount will not normally exceed what we would have paid our preferred supplier.

In the event of the total loss or destruction of any article we will not pay more than the new replacement cost of any home contents and personal effects other than:

  • the market value of any clothing, antiques, fine arts, boats, motorcycles, cycles and trailers.
  • the cost of documents as new stationery.
  • the cost of data storage media as new blank data storage media.

Insurers may not be able to settle the claim from the information you have given. This is why it is important to:

  1. Not throw away any damaged items before We have had chance to inspect them.
  2. Provide us with the following information if requested:
    • Original purchase receipts, valuations and photographs of more expensive items.
    • Provide repair estimates for any damaged items.
    • For damaged items, confirmation by a qualified expert that the item you are claiming for is damaged beyond repair.

Insurers may need to send a member of their claims staff or a loss adjuster to find out more about your claim. A loss adjuster specialises in dealing with insurance claims. He or she will report to Insurers who will pay any fee involved.

Insurers may need to contact you for more information. Insurers claims staff take pride in their service and will do all they can to help you.

Unfortunately not, due to the sensitive nature of the information you must supply in order to take out a policy (e.g. credit card details). We accept payment by credit or debit card through a secure, reputable payment gateway, chosen due to the high level of security.
You may cancel cover at any time after the initial minimum cover period of 28 days by selecting the ‘Cancel’ option in the ‘My account’ section of the NSIP website and following the on-screen instructions. In either case provided you have not made a claim you will be entitled to a refund of the premium for the remainder of the period of Insurance shown in the Confirmation of Insurance minus any administration fees.

You are covered for physical loss of or damage arising from fire (and/or the additional perils listed below) to home contents and personal effects (including sport equipment, boats, motorcycles, cycles and trailers) occurring during the period of Insurance shown in the Confirmation of Insurance whilst in transit within an enclosed car or commercial road vehicle:

  1. To the Self Storage Location shown on the Confirmation of Insurance from any location in the UK or
  2. From the Self Storage Location shown on the Confirmation of Insurance to any location in the UK.

The additional perils covered are:

Log in into your account and go to “amend a policy”. From there you will be able to change the expiration date from 1 day up to 52 weeks from the time of the amendment.

If you have taken out a period with a fixed end date, you may extend your policy at any time by logging into your account and amending the end date of your policy. You can effectively extend your policy from 1 day up to 52 weeks from the time of the amendment.

If you are on a rolling policy then your cover will continue until you cancel the policy, assuming all premiums are paid every 28 days.

The policy for your original facility is not valid for your new facility. You must cancel the existing policy relating to the previous facility and take out a new policy for your new facility. (You will be refunded for any remaining period of cover not used on the original policy minus an admin fee).
One policy will cover multiple units within a single location storage facility. If however you have a number of storage units in several different locations, even if they are the same company, you will need individual policies for each storage location.
At the moment we do not have the facility to process direct debits. However you can buy insurance cover on a monthly payment scheme that will ensure your cover will automatically continue until you cancel the policy, assuming all premiums are paid every 28 days through the automatic process.
You can manage the amount of cover at any time by logging into your account and amending your policy accordingly.
As soon as you have paid for your insurance your policy will be available to download as a PDF directly from the website. It is also sent to you as an attachment to an email. We do not send hard copies out by post.
Your policy has essentially lapsed and therefore you will need to take out a new policy by logging into your account and then taking out a new policy.
Log in to your account and click “My account” and then update your details.
As long as you have internet access you can manage your account anywhere in the world and because our policy generates in PDF format, you can email a copy of it straight to your storage company.
